Bar code scanners are apparently ridiculously expensive. This is the best value I could find and it is absolutely perfect. It’s a regular bar code scanner like what you’d see any store use, not one of those crappy ones you need to hold half an inch from the thing you’re scanning. I definitely appreciate that and I wanted to point that out because a lot of the cheaper scanners are like that.

The build quality is quite solid. I’ve actually dropped this off my desk several times on accident (cats, cord is long, etc) and it’s holding up quite nicely.

The options are amazing. They basically give you a huge book of codes to scan to turn on and off any feature you want. For instance, I enabled UPC-5 to scan comic books (page 23 of the manual near the bottom if you already bought it and want to scan comics). I go into the book, go to that page, scan the barcode to enable it and it is immediately ready to scan. The fact that you can actually turn features on and off that easily is extremely handy and if you’ve been reading through all the scanners here, hopefully you’ll see this. When I was looking around, I was really worried I would end up with a scanner that wouldn’t support the comics because they use the UPC-5 supplemental barcode (which no scanner usually has turned on by default).

I now use this with Collectorz.com’s Comic Collector software and it works perfectly. Glad I bought this as it makes it MUCH easier to add all my new books to the database in my shop. I get monthly shipments online, open up the box, scan everything, works out quite nicely. Much easier than other expensive scanners like Motorola, Honeywell, datalogic and this is much better scanning quality than expensive orbit scanners which I was using before. Would buy some more in future for all my shops.
